The outdoor lighting design for this contemporary mosque played with the notion of illuminating architecture instead of a separate lighting system mounted onto it. The screens cladding the main masses of the building were backlit, projecting a soft glow onto the outdoor common areas. Likewise, the columns holding the huge canopy were covered in frosted backlit glass, giving the impression of floating elements in the space. This same lighting strategy was applied on the minaret, converting it into a glowing tower in the dark skyline.
