Al Farooq Mosque

LOCATION: DUBAI, UAE
USE: WORSHIP
SCOPE: INTERNAL & FAƇADE LIGHTING DESIGN

Located in Al Wasl residential area, it is the largest mosque in Dubai, and is capable of holding 2000 worshippers. It’s architecture is inspired in the Blue Mosque of Istanbul. The inside is embellished with the most exquisite geometric designs and glazed tile patterns, made by Moroccan craftsmen specially flown for this task.

Our scope of work was the enhancement of the originally proposed lighting design.

For the indoor area we identified several deficiencies in terms of lighting levels and space recognition. Hence, our main strategies were to increase the vertical illuminance on walls, illuminate the central and half domes and increase the lighting at the center of the prayer hall.

To enhance the facade during the night, we changed the existing uplights to higher output, replaced all lamps to cold colour temperature and located projectors to wash the minarets and top domes. The improvement was dramatic, and the mosque can now be appreciated as the masterpiece it is.
